Anthony Michael's Prefect Induction

On the 7th of February 2020 marks another day of a great achievement at the Veilomani Boys Home when Anthony Michael, a form 6 student at DAV College in Ba, was inducted as the Deputy Head Boy. He is the first from the home to adorn a deputy leadership role in any secondary and/or a primary school level. This success reflects the teaching and training done at the home for the Boys to strive for excellence in all areas of live.

On the day of the prefects’ investiture, early at around 5.30am, Anthony knocked at my door at home, to my surprise when opening the door, he greeted me with a smile requesting my attendance to the prefect induction which begins at 8.00am at School. I agreed and assured him that I will be there, I initially thought that he might be inducted as a school prefect or school monitor. After I conducted the morning service and debriefing to the Veilomani Vocational and Rehabilitation College students and teachers, I went directly to DAV College to be part of the Prefects Induction Ceremony. The school hall was fully packed with students and parents and I was guided to a VIP seat to be part of this auspicious occasion.

While the prefects’ induction continued from junior prefects to senior prefects, I saw that only 4 students left to be inducted and one of them was none other than our Veilomani Boys Home son, Anthony Michael. After inducting the College’s deputy head girl (Sera Yavala, year 12 student), the MC, Mrs. Angela Ram announced, “next on the list is our College Deputy Head Boy, he was chosen based on hard work and perseverance, a good role model and performed exceptionally well in and out of the classroom. It gives me great pleasure in announcing ANTHONY MICHAEL as our College Deputy Head Boy for 2020 academic year. I would like to request Rev. Wame Boselawa of Veilomani Boys Home to come up the stage and put the badge on our new Deputy Head Boy.” Cheers and jubilant echoed through the hall, I was felt with a heavy heart filled with emotions and tears start rolling down my face, as I was thinking back to the very first day Anthony was transferred to Veilomani Boys Home. His personal file was filled with negative information about him, however, he was totally transformed into a new person after having spent 5 years in the home.

This is a great achievement and I must thank you all for supporting us in caring and mentoring of our sons at the Veilomani Boys Home. Your tremendous support has played a vital role in molding the lives of the boys and is reflected in their performance be it at School such as for Anthony. Because of you and your friends we will not feel alone, scared, neglected and or orphaned because your love is more like a parent to us and your love empowers us to move forward and not dwell on the past. We must say that you and your family will always be at our heart and we do hope that you will continue to support us and be part of us and it will surely make a lot of changes for us. If possible, spread this news about our home to your families and friends so that we can together provide support to these children as part of our corporate responsibilities and social justice. Your invaluable support will help the Veilomani Boys Home create a greater place to further build child’s dignity and self-worth.
