“It takes hands to build a house, but only hearts can build a home”, the Lord has touched souls to help repair and rebuild the first floor of the Veilomani Boys Home hostel, something that we are often thankful of. The wooden floor at the top level began giving away last year, started shaking and in dire need of repairs. This has become an OHS issue and the lives of the occupants were at hand.
Mr. Stanley, General Manager of Rooster Poultry, visited the Home in November 2019. He made a visit at the top floor of the hostel and felt a slight tremor from moving floor parts. He raised the issue with us, worried that the floor will fall someday, injuring and can be fatal to occupants at the top and bottom floor. This has become a public attention and the staff at the Veilomani Boys Home needed to act swiftly to repair the floor. Mr. Stanley got back to us later and advised that we were invited to be the guests at a golf tournament held at the Denarau Golf Course in Nadi. Little did we know that a portion of funds raised from this tournament will be donated to the Veilomani Boys Home to repair the top floor, but more to that, we also had enough to purchase some beds for the hostel.
Bhai Builders in Ba was given the tenders to renovate the top floor, work began on 6 February 2020. The contractor has replaced the old timber floor with vanished 12mm marine Ply and the old wooden frame with new hardwood timbers. We are looking forward to a newly renovated floor, where our children will feel safe, comfortable and peaceful. We are thankful to Mr. Stanley for initiating and being a driving force in sourcing funds to help us repair our Home, “Some people look for a beautiful place, others make a place beautiful”.
